Hi Yves

In respect if your comments about access to South America from the US and Europe, as indicated on the new map, it seems to me that there are not included paths within the internal networks of both the YS and Europe.

For instance, there is redundant capacity from S America to Amlight in Florida, from where there are multiple paths to Chicago and the Northeast by means of Atlantic Wave and Internet2.

The Bella cable from Brazil to Portugal is currently extended to Geant PoPs in Lisbon and Madrid.

The omission if these "internal" network links gives the impression you have commented.

I am unsure how this complementary connectivity may be represented on the GNA-G map, without introducing unnecessary "clutter" within the US and Europe. Any suggestions?

Cheers

Michael

Excellent map, thank you Jane.

As Erik Jan was alluding to, I also cannot help but be impressed to see what our R&E Networking Community has created since we first discussed a transatlantic 40gbps. or even possibly7 100gbps When Erik Jan passed by here in Montreal in the wake of the successful Iceland - Europe 100gbps demo at TNC2012.  The resulting transatlantic 100gbps at TNC13 in Maastricht is now part of R&E Networking history.

In addition to the points listed by Erik Jan I would like to note that from my old carrier perspective, it occurs to me that some circuits are not shown as backed-up.

1) Washington _ Geneva  although CERN also has a direct  connection to Netherlight. Should the Geneva-Amsterdam connection be added?
2)  Lisbon looks quite isolated at the end of the Fortaleza circuit.  This brings a question to mind:  does Lisbon have an alternate path?  Any agreement with Geant to that effect?
3) Really missing is a Chicago or New York to Jacksonville or Boca Raton connection in AP-REX;  this isolates South America from North America.;

Best regards and wishing you all safe and enjoyable holidays as we are yet again about to enter a new year. Let's hope indeed that we will soon be able to meet in person again.

Yves

Dear GNA-G Community:

Earlier this week, the Q4 2021 Community VCs took place. If you were
there, thank you for participating!

One of the topics that was discussed is the draft for the new map for
the front page of the GNA-G website (https://www.gna-g.net/). Since the
time the existing map was created, the GREN has moved forward.

A big thanks to Jane Gifford of AARNet who is the creator of the
original map. She is now working with the Leadership Team on creating an
update.

The draft new map as was shown during the Q4 2021 Community VCs. During
the VCs, we already received the following comments (thanks!):

* The interconnection between the North American GXPs needs to be reviewed.

* A new link between Mtunzini and Amsterdam, that balances the link
between Cape Town and London, should be added.

* In AER, Jeddah should be a dot on the map, as there is a GXP in
Jeddah, and the links between Jeddah and Amsterdam and between Jeddah
and Singapore should be double.

* In APOnet, there are a few links that might need to be double.

* Also in APOnet, the links to Auckland need a double check.

Please review the map and reply to me with your suggestions. I will
collect them, review them with the Leadership Team and Jane, and from
that we will produce the new version.

Thank you and happy holiday season.

Kind regards,
